5 Tips to Bring Your Lady Bits Back to Balance

…and by Lady Bits, I mean Hormones.

Have you ever felt like you were following someone else’s schedule rather than your own natural rhythm?

You may be letting your kids, husband, partner, or even roommates influence the flow of your day; it could also be a broader “prescribed rhythm” that you’re going with instead of actually listening to your body.

Here’s the truth: One rhythm does not work for everyone. Following someone else’s schedule more often than not has a negative effect on female hormones. If you’re dealing with chronic fatigue, low sex drive, intense premenstrual syndrome (PMS), cystic acne, mild depression, or other “random” symptoms, going against your natural rhythm might be the issue. By working to balancing your hormones, you’ll naturally begin to live in harmony with your female body instead of dragging yourself along on someone else’s agenda.

The result? You’ll start feeling more energized and vibrant than ever.

EVALUATE YOUR MINDSET

A lot of women feel like they need to keep up with other people. If you don’t feel like partying four nights a week after a 14-hour workday or exercising for two hours every single day, you might think there’s something wrong with you. You might even beat yourself up or feel ashamed and lazy. Ignoring your body’s signals and writing them off as laziness is not productive or helpful – it actually drains your energy even more.

The mental weight you put on yourself (like shame and judgment) is often more draining than a long to-do list. The female body is naturally incredibly fine-tuned. It is designed for deep relaxation and self-care at certain times of the month and linear, productive work at other times of the month.

Here are some symptoms that commonly appear when you have been pushing your body rather than honoring your limits:

1| You’re exhausted.

2| Your sex drive is nowhere to be found.

3| Your PMS is more intense than usual.

4| You’re gaining weight around the middle of your body.

5| You feel guilty, ashamed, and/or depressed – sometimes for no particular reason.

6| Cystic acne is starting to appear, especially around the jawline and chin.

If this is you, and you feel like you need some help in this department; read on to learn how to heal the body through simple methods that bring your female body back into balance.

1. EMPOWER YOURSELF.

When symptoms pop up, it’s easy to fear there might be a bigger or more complex issue going on or to feel like you’re broken and you can’t heal. The first step to healing is acknowledging that nothing is inherently wrong with you. Even if your health is not perfect right now, there’s nothing wrong with you and you’re not broken. You are whole exactly as you are. From that place of confidence in your body’s ability to heal itself, you can get curious about what’s going on for you and tap into the endless toolbox, the universal library of information that is always within.  To do this, you may want to consider meditation, contemplation, journalling, or other beautiful practises that allow you to explore your feelings, and or be the witness to what is going on for you.  Embodying the mindset that you are healthy now and you can become even healthier takes a huge weight off your shoulders and allows your body to naturally reach health. Stop focussing on what you believe to be WRONG, and focus your energy on the good things in your life. Read more about my recent post on Gratitude to understand how this all works.

2. GET REAL ABOUT REST.

Are you chronically exhausted, trying to push through the day? Maybe you’re actually tired. Starting with weekends, let yourself sleep as long as you want. You might notice that you wake up naturally without an alarm clock during the week. Some people will be healed after one long deep sleep, while others might need to take some serious time off to come back into balance. Sleep is a requirement for good health. Listen to your body and sleep when you’re tired.  Even short power-naps are a juicy way to re-energise the body.  Pop a diffuser on with some calming Essential oils, like, Lavender, Pettitgrain or even LemonGrass and Cedarwood, and let the aromatic compounds calm the nervous system for some down time.

3. BALANCE YOUR NERVOUS SYSTEM.

Most modern people spend the majority of their lives in the sympathetic nervous system state, aka the fight or flight, stranger-danger zone: that feeling you get when someone creeps up behind you and surprises you – or, perhaps less likely, when you’re getting chased by a bear. Here’s the thing: Your body doesn’t know the difference between those literal stressors and chronic work-related stress, or stress that stems from difficult relationships. When your body is in this sympathetic state, it can’t repair. When you are relaxed and calm, your body is in the parasympathetic state – referred to as the “rest and digest” system. This state is brought on by sleep, laughing, meditation, qigong, reiki, and even intimacy like cuddling and sex. Your body has to be in the parasympathetic state to heal and evolve. The more you can activate your parasympathetic nervous system by relaxing and having more fun, the healthier you’ll be – physically and mentally.

4. EVALUATE EXERCISE.

It might surprise you, but sometimes the harder you work out, the more stress you actually put on your body. Depending on your constitution and condition, you may actually need gentle exercise, like yoga or tai chi. Certain forms of rigorous exercise trigger the stress response, so make sure you balance your hard-core workouts with practices that are more gentle on the body. Gentle practices might include yoga, meditation, or dance. You might even discover that you want to do only these more gentle practices. Experiment for a few weeks and see how your body responds.

5. EMBRACE THE POWER OF COMMUNITY.

Community has a powerful influence on personal health, and developing a community of people to support you is crucial to balancing your hormones. When you feel alone and isolated, you’re more likely to overeat, feel depressed, and lack love and connection in your life. Humans are meant to live in communities – it’s natural and necessary. Reach out to three people this week who you’d like to deepen your relationship with and notice how it impacts your energy and physical health over the next few months.

If you’re stoke that you read this post, and you want to delve into this subject a bit more, then please join me for a workshop on Sunday the 9th April at 11am in Port Melbourne.  Click here to reserve your spot. Tickets are FREE (I know, it’s ludicrous right?!) but seats are limited so get in quick if you can attend,

If you’re not able to attend because of geographic limitations, then please pop your name on this list – The Healthy Humans List, and I’ll send you some information on when next I’m running a webinar on the subject, and you can join in on the fun then,

Please share this post with women who you feel would benefit from these 5 tips, After all, it’s all about sisterhood, love and sharing the message that it’s ok to beat the drum to your own rhythm. It’s ok to be your own person.  It’s ok, no, IT’S ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY for you to show up in the world EXACTLY as you are NOW. You have a divine gift and by not being true to yourself, but not expressing your hearts passion, by not accessing the gifts that you’ve been given, you’re doing (not only the world at large) but yourself a disservice.

Let’s create a movement in the world where we start to honour the body, and it’s limits. Who’s with me?

2 Simple Inquiries into Self-Sabotage

We all have unlimited potential right? Well, that’s what every self-help and personal-development book tells us, and I believe it all, I do.

But often our results don’t reflect that. Why? Because our unconscious beliefs cripple our results. These ‘unconscious beliefs’ are our programmed beliefs, the ones our parents, school-teachers, and other significant people from our youth gave to us.

This is big for me. We’re taught that we need to work HARD, and that we need to SUFFER to ‘earn’ success and happiness. As if the amount of suffering we endure will amount to the quantity of our bliss. Our nature is to only invest energy into that which we believe will produce the outcome we seek. I mean, that makes logical sense right?

Decide what you want, and then go after it. Work long hours, undercut & undermine people, be nasty and play office-politics, because ‘that’s the only way you’re going to make it to the top’.

Not only have we been taught a skewed lesson on how to achieve greatness, but on the flip-side of it all, when we believe something is not going to work out – even an unconscious belief that we may consciously not even be aware of – we sabotage our potential by taking half-hearted action.

Also called Cognitive Distortions, most of the obstacles we encounter are created through thinking patterns that we have developed throughout our lives. Over time, these patterns become habits that lead to unconscious self sabotage. In order to counteract this, we need to be aware of our thinking patterns and how they affect our lives.

And this my dear friends, is what I have caught myself doing lately…drum roll please….

Little action equals lousy results.

Lousy results equal uncertainty and disheartened beliefs.

It is a vicious cycle that only ends when you decide to change what you’re putting into it.

EARLIER ON THIS MONTH, I realised for the first time how far I had actually come. In spite of all the self-doubt, worry and self-sabotage …. it’s all come good. In fact, I’m exactly where I always wanted to be.

But wait, what now? Things are going ‘too well’. That little voice in my head says ‘something’s gotta give Ari, this is all going wayyyy too good.  I can still hear the constant dissatisfaction and frustration, the self doubt, self sabotage, resistance, judgement and fear felt when hearing this voice trying to coax me out of my happiness and satisfaction.

What I have come to realize is that Many of us sabotage because we fear change. We fear it may create too much havoc and instability in our lives. We fear that it may mean the end of our marriages, chosen careers or popularity. Sound familiar?

This type of self-sabotage, can seep its way into your goals, your relationships, projects, and almost all other areas of your life. To make this clear, what we’re actually doing is, failing on purpose. Crazy hey?!

So after having this little nugget of realization earlier this month, I started to recount all the things that have been ‘going wrong’ lately, and I’ve been able to pin-point the areas of sabotage, and finally take control and responsibility of my actions, or more appropriately, my in-actions.

Of course, things that have happened, have already happened right, but it’s my responsibility as an adult, to get my arse into gear, and step-up!

So this is what I’ve been working on which I thought to share in case you’re experiencing the same frustrations as I am:

  • Re-sort my goals – Are my goals my own or are they imposed by someone else? We often sabotage the outcome of our goals when our heart is not in it. In my case, what I realized is that I have been setting my goals too high. Being way too ambitious, so that I actually set myself up for failure. So, I set a really high goal, and then when I miss the mark, I get down on myself, which only confirms all the fear and self-doubt that I have, which then forms a perpetual cycle. And On and On we go.  I pop the lids off my essential oils, take a whif, and dig deep. The oils I used for this step are one’s for courage; Clove, Ginger, doTERRA’s Cheer Blend and doTERRA’s Motivate Blend (which I used so much that I had to purchase new bottles);  These oils are encouraging and uplifting, and they foster confidence to follow through with one’s own inspirations and intentions. They act as a support in rediscovering and maintaining one’s desire to serve your highest purpose and helps you to spring into action. To find out more on how you can purchase your Essential Oils, click here.
  • Investigate what emotions have I been avoiding? What situations have I been avoiding for fear of success or failure? By avoiding situations, we can prevent ourselves from hurtful emotions but we also prevent ourselves from happiness, moving forward, love, success, achievement and the joy of living.  This can show up in our lives in so many ways. Ask yourself honestly, can you relate to any of these three statements? And If so, how?
    1. Not getting involved in a relationship to avoid possible heartbreak.
    2. Not taking risks to avoid failure.
    3. Not asking because you’re fearful of rejection.

Whether we try to suppress our emotions via avoidance, covering up or ignoring them, it becomes clear as time progresses that our emotions are never truly suppressed. Our body is designed for expressions and thus finds alternative pathways for the emotion to surface i.e.: illness, depression, moodiness, self sabotage, stagnancy, failure, bad luck etc.

The thing is, you can do “all the right things”, and yet… if you’re constantly having thoughts and words that disempower you and others, it will sabotage your results.  What is your ‘love and bliss’ ceiling? What amount of love, bliss and ‘everything is going so well’ can you handle before ‘it’s too good to be true’? Perhaps you get to the 2 year mark and then self-sabotage because 2 years is your limit. Or perhaps it’s something else.

Passive-aggressive people sabotage the work assignment that they don’t want to do. For example, a woman I know was given a task at work that she absolutely deplored. But she was afraid of saying no to her boss, so instead she made many mistakes while completing the task to ensure that she’d never be asked to do it again.

Here is some food for thought to start the inquiry into your actions. If there is even a tinge of something herein that triggers you, delve deeper, until you know what it is that you could be doing to sabotage yourself:

#1

Unworthiness means that you don’t feel worthy of receiving the same goodness to which you believe everyone else is entitled. As a person who believes you’re unworthy, you’ll sabotage all good things as they come to you. You won’t have your sights set high enough. You’ll expect the worst, so that’s what you’ll attract and create.

#2

If you people-please, everyone will know it. People-pleasers never get away with their act. Others know that you’re faking your feelings, laughter, and smiles, and they’ll doubt your sincerity and your integrity. They won’t trust you, and they’ll wonder what else you might be dishonest about. So people-pleasing can sabotage your credibility in business, and your trustworthiness in relationships.

There are so many other ways which you can sabotage yourself. Please share your experiences in the comments below so that others can learn from you too.

How ‘TRUSTING’ Rewarded Me The Life Of My Dreams!

So by now you know that I am all about discovering and playing around with this innate knowledge and belief that there is an Energy Force around us, supporting us and guiding us on our journey through life.
CLICK HERE TO LISTEN TO THE RECORDING OF THIS BLOG POST

It’s not that anyone has shown this energy to me in its physical form, I just KNOW and TRUST that it’s there. I mean, countless times in my life, I have made decisions based on gut feeling, and my gorgeous ‘gut’ never fails me. Admittedly, there were time that this concept of ‘trusting’ wasn’t something that came easy for me.  The more I grew up, the more I realised that I had this inner faith, an inner voice, an energy field, protecting me and showing me what to do and what to say, how to act in certain situations, and whether to react to circumstances in my life.

I realised that through my early 20’s, I allowed circumstances to get in the way of my hearing and listening to my ‘gut’, and things in my life started to go in all directions that I knew, were NOT GOOD FOR ME. I could feel my life downward spiralling, and those that were close to me, were I’m sure, quite afraid for me as I didn’t have any direction, and was just meandering through the days, looking for any highs or fixes that would that cure satiate my thirst for thrills.

So, I started to listen to that voice again. Goodness knows how, but it happened. It was as if I woke up one morning, and considering my actions of late, I’d gone completely mad! CRAZY!

My actions at the time were erratic to some, and even though I can’t say I was fully understanding at the time, I was committed and head-strong to complete the tasks ahead.  I call them ‘tasks’ because at the time, they most certainly were.

If I had to think back, I realise now that I entered into a conversation with my inner voice (now I’m sure you think that i’m crazy right?).  I managed to weasel my way out of countless situations which weren’t serving my highest purpose, and started to head down the path that has lead me to the amazing truth that I am in today.

So when I say, I started to get into a conversation with that voice, what exactly do I mean?

Numero Uno:

I got really clear about what I wanted in my life. Of course it started with what I didn’t want in my life, and at the time, partying and living life aimlessly was definitely something that I DID NOT want.  So, I started to get clear on what I did want.  Some call it prayer, some call it manifesting. Call it what you want, but that’s what I did.  I began the practise of setting intentions.  I first learnt how to do this on my yoga mat, and I experienced this when my yoga-instructor used to offer us a time before practise to set an intention for the next hour or even for the next day, for whatever we wanted in our lives.  She would always explain that we were to set our intention to imply as if it had already taken place, and to practise gratitude for it having already happened.

As time progressed, (and I’m talking a few years here) I started offering my intentions to a higher power – a power that was and still is greater than me. I now believe that I should have started offering this up a lot sooner, but this is how it played in my life. Se la vie.

Setting intentions is a beautiful practise that I continue to do daily. The mood that I infuse into my daily intentions is one of gratitude rather than need.  I feel like ‘needing’ something is a sign of desperation.  Coming from a place of total belief and trust that what I intend to happen is for the greater good, and not just for my selfish needs, also ensures that the energy behind my intention is that of love and compassion both for myself and for others.

An Example of these intentions or manifestations would look something like this:

When I’m trying to decide on something, I ask ‘Show me what to do where to go.  Thank you for revealing to me what it is that I need to know’

Make sense?

I also stopped setting intentions only for myself, and quite often offer up a yoga or meditation practise for others.  This has transformed my life – truly !  How? it’s placed a stop on always having to control outcomes. Being in a place of service and surrender is so much softer than ‘needing’ and ‘wanting’ and fearing the outcome if it doesn’t go my way. I learnt to surrender through prayer /or meditation, which just spiralled more gratitude for my inner guidance.  Does that makes sense?  You’ve often heard me say, ‘I go first, the universe goes second’.  I have to put myself out there FIRST, before I get good things come my way.

You KNOW when you’re aligned, right? You can FEEL it. In every bone of your body and in the ENERGY within your body.

I like to call it the ‘zhooozsh’ feeling that runs up my spine.

Grounded. Certain. Electric. On fire.

THAT is the feeling of alignment for me.

Seek more of THAT.

Numero Dos:

The next part for me is to listen for what comes up through meditation.   When we are still, when we are energetically serene, when we are at peace, we allow the voice of love to move through us. When I listen to my intuition and inner guidance, I make a conscious effort to get out of my own way. A simple example in my life right now, is of slowing down when I’ve been going a million miles per hour. My mind is saying, “You’re on a roll Ari, don’t stop now! You’re going to miss out – FOMO!!’ ARRRGH!

What my intuition and inner Guidance is telling me, is to ‘slow down babe, chill and relax a bit. Give yourself space to recoup and recharge.’  I am sure you can relate to this right? I can’t possibly be the only one who experiences this?  I realise that the time I am given to be on my own to consider my own wants and desires, really leads me to a state of peace. I create space for myself to journal for ideas and to be in the stillness to witness and hear what comes up for me.

I dare you to try this! Experience being ‘the Witness’ in your own life – Allow the unfolding of a conversation and let it become a dialogue in your daily life.  ALLOW, WITNESS, WONDER.

Trust that what is coming for you is in the Divine Order of what you’re asking for and what you are grateful for.

Clear the voice of fear and judgement and come to the voice of life.

The outcome?  A Magnificent world which you could never imagine exists becomes reality. A world of support and freedom is available to you.  Be in conversation with the universe.  Deepen your conversation with your inner self and move beyond the judgement of whatever it is that is clocking (cock-blocking) your way.

Trust in the practice and enjoy it. I use Essential Oils DAILY to help and assist me to ‘tune in’.  I find that the smell of certain oils and blends, take me straight to a state of being, and I can’t imagine my life without my little Roll-on or Spritzer; or my Diffuser next to My Meditation Pillow.

I use these Essential Oils to nurture the trust I have with the Universe, with my inner Guidance.

  1.  Myrrh – When the soul has lost the ability to trust, feelings of trust are replaced by feelings of fear and a belief that the world is unsafe.  Myrrh assists in letting go of fear and rekindles trust within the soul.  As you learn to live in trust, confidence in the goodness of life returns and the soul feels more safe  and at home.
  2. Reassuring Blend – Lavender; Ylang Ylang; Frankincense; Clary Sage – Amongst other things, this blend invites us to trust in Divine goodness and grace. It affirms that no amount of control or effort can fill the empty soul.  It reminds us that only through connecting to the Divine, will we cultivate lasting peace. 1A3A4742

11 Steps to Better Health

Statistics are thrown around a lot when it comes to risk of contracting diseases – for example, you have probably heard that 1 in 8 women will get invasive breast cancer, or 1 in 3 women will die from heart disease or stroke. But, how do you know that the drugs prescribed to prevent and treat these diseases will work for you? More importantly, how do you know that these drugs won’t cause you serious harm?

The reality is, no drug is 100 percent effective for everyone. In fact, many of the most commonly prescribed drugs work only for a minority of patients. And, many more drugs can cause harm to a significant number of people.

So, How do we take care of ourselves in the hope that we live long and happy lives?

Try these Simple Steps, and please let me know if you have any Additions for us to try

  1.  Drink More Water – Everyone’s ideal water consumption varies right? So how do we know how much water is enough and perfect for us and our bodies?  According to LifeHack.com, there are 14 signs to notice when you’re not drinking enough water. Check out the link here to jump straight onto their website if you’re curious to know what dehydration looks and feels like.

…and here’s some food for thought – Sometimes sweet cravings are a sign of dehydration. Before you go for the sugar, have a glass of water and wait a few minutes to see what happens.

  2. Practise Cooking – Yep, you heard right.  Besides the fact that cooking can be experienced as a sure-fire way to reduce your stress for some; You’re g’teed to know what’s going in your food when cooking for yourself.  Too many store bought, and fast-foods contain preservatives and ingredients that you’ve probably never even heard of before.  If you’re not convinced that cooking will ever be your thing, check out these fun-filled recipes (from the WholeDaily) and video’s to get you inspired enough to pop the chef’s hate on.
  3. Increase Sweet Veggies  Sweet Veggies are naturally sweet, healthy, and delicious. The more you eat, the less you’ll crave sugar.  Here’s a little article written by the veghealthguide.com about Fruits & Veggies and how you can eat the best variation of different sorts.
  4. Increase Leafy Greens –  Green vegetables are the most commonly missing food in modern diets. Learning to incorporate dark leafy greens into the diet is essential to establishing a healthy body and immune system. Greens help build your internal rainforest and strengthen the blood and respiratory system. When you nourish yourself with greens, you may naturally crowd out the foods that make you sick. Leafy green vegetables are also high – alkaline foods. Alkaline minerals in our bodies neutralize acidic conditions caused by the environment. Green vegetables help to replenish our alkaline mineral stores and filter out pollutants.  If you want to grab my FREE Glorious Greens info sheet, then click here.
  5. Experiment with Protein –  In the nutrition world, how much and what types of protein one should consume is highly debated. Some say that high-quality animal meat is needed for optimal health, while others advocate for a plant-based diet. Experiment with what works for your body at this time in your life. This way you’ll be able to successfully guide yourself to your appropriate protein source.
  6. Eat Fewer Processed Foods – Oh My Goodness, an article written on the Guardian by Joanna Blythman in 2015 sums it up pretty well.  She talks about what’s really in our food, and how careful we need to be when purchasing pre-packaged goods. This also poses the age-long question about where we get our food from? How is it sourced?

My growing preoccupation was how little we know about the food that sits on our supermarket shelvs, in boxes, cartons”

7.  Nurture Your Body – SelfCare Baby 101!  One of the things I have said since I can remember is ‘My Body is a Temple!”.  With that in mind, let’s be kind to ourselves, and remember that what we put in is what we get out. I have recently learnt what it’s like to live life in BALANCE.

Not that long ago, I was an ‘all or nothing kinda chic’, and whilst that’s still true to a certain degree, I am a little more gentle with myself when it comes to what I eat, how I think, and what I do with my spare time. Meditation is a BIG PART of my daily routine!  I use Essential Oils to nourish and care for my emotional wellbeing AND my physical body and I always make time to enjoy my own company, whether it be for 3, or 30 minutes per day! It’s crucial to my sanity, and to my marriage ! On that note…..

8.  Have healthy Relationships – Communication is the cornerstone of every strong relationship. You will not always agree with your partner, your brother, mother, sister or friend, but if you have a foundation of respect and clear communication it will be much easier to resolve any conflicts that arise.

9.  Enjoy Regular Physical Activity – A balanced diet is essential for a happy and healthy life, but without regular exercise no amount of kale or kidney beans will make up for a lack of locomotion. Just like certain foods protect us from heart disease, cancer, and diabetes, regular physical activity has its own list of health enhancement. Without exercise, it’s hard to reach your full physical and mental potential and achieve overall well-being.

10.  Find Work you Love Many people spend days, weeks, months, years, and even decades in careers that are diametrically opposed to who they are as spiritual beings. It’s incredibly important to find alignment in your career, spirituality, health, and relationships, so you can live your purpose and be happy.  It’s all about finding work you love, or learning to love the work you do. You don’t have to leave your 9-5 job in order to explore other career paths – there are always ways to find gratification.

11.  Develop a Spiritual Practise – Now I’m not talking religion here guys. I am talking Spiritual!  Now if you’re not too sure what the difference is, I am going to hand over to my dear Friends, Oprah and Brene’, as they explain what Spirituality is.  The belief that we’re all connected! That we’re all routed in LOVE and Belonging!

I would absolutely love your thoughts and comments below. I work with clients daily to help them iron out any kinks in their lives. If this sounds like somethign you’re interested in knowing mire about. Click here and fill in the contact-form and i’ll be in touch soon.

Rashes be GONE – The Miracle of Lavender Essential Oil

From Rashes to Sunburn, Anxiety to Body Aches, Insomnia to Cuts and Burns, you can totally see how the versatile properties of Lavender essential oil make it my personal favorite, and a must-have oil to keep on hand at all times.

It is not surprising that Lavender essential oil is one of the most popular oils used in aromatherapy. Its popularity is attributed not only to the fresh, pleasant floral scent, but more to the numerous properties for which lavender has been assigned and used since ancient times.

Anciently, the Romans and Egyptians would use Lavender as perfume and for bathing and cooking & Since that time, many have discovered the myriad benefits that Lavender holds.   You’ll know the scent of lavender quite well as Lavender oil is commonly used in a variety of perfumes, soaps, cosmetics and for aromatherapy.

Of course, in order for Lavender Oil to have the Therapeutic Properties I’m mentioning below, you want to ensure that your brand of Essential Oil is Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade (CPTG). 1.  Do you struggle with obnoxious razor bumps after shaving? Well, shaving might be essential, but irritating razor bumps are not. Pop some lavender in a carrier oil and wallah, soothed skin…You can also cleanse and nourish your skin by making your own Lavender essential oil clay mask at home. Great for all skin types!  I use it every morning on my face and body.  Whether you are trying to soothe skin irritation or merely nourish delicate skin, there are many uses of Lavender essential oil for skin.  The soothing properties of Lavender have made it a popular option for skincare products, at-home skincare DIYs, and simple topical application.
  2. I also find it’s amazing for anxiety, emotional confusion, stress, insomnia, irritability, anger, mood swings and depression.  As someone who has suffered from migraines most of my life, the simple inhalation and or anointing of lavender to the temples and forehead is super-soothing and is also an effective and safe treatment in the acute management of migraine headaches.
  3. I would recommend a few drops of lavender oil in a hot foot bath to relieve fatigue.
  4. Lavender is a very effective expectorant, especially useful for chest and throat infections.
  5. Topically it is excellent for muscular aches and pains and outwardly applied for the relief of toothache & sprains.

When deep sadness covers the spirit like a suffocating blanket, lavender gently lifts the weight. When inner tears fall, lavender wipes them away. When depression clouds the psyche, lavender blows it asunder. And for those with worries that trouble the spirit, lavender lifts the veil of despair. Embracing lavender is direct, pure of thought, brave and humble. It makes men gentle and women strong. Even in times of hardship a lavender personality bravely continues overcoming obstacles that ae placed in their way, having the ability to give generously of themselves – caring for others, often with gentleness and sacrifice.– Worwood

6.  True lavender is very useful for its healing properties and the treatment of burns and wounds. Lavender appears to have cellular regenerating action and has topical analgesic action. Lavender’s antiseptic and antibacterial properties were well known by the French Academy of Medicine, where it was used in the swabbing of wounds, treatment of sores, varicose ulcers, burns and scalds.

8.  Making a homemade cuticle cream with Lavender essential oil is a great way to bring the moisture and healthy look back into your nails. You can also use this cream on your hands, lips, or anywhere you have dry spots. Check out this DIY recipe for homemade cuticle cream, featuring the wonderful soothing abilities of Lavender essential oil.

9.  Ladies, this one’s for you! and I promise you, this friggen works for menstrual pain like you would never believe – A study found that lavender oil used in a massage oil significantly reduced pain associated with menstruation to a greater degree than the placebo. There was a 38% reduction in pain with lavender oil massage compared to only 9.8% reduction in pain with the placebo group.

10.  One aromatic benefit that Lavender oil is widely known for is its ability to promote a relaxing atmosphere that leads to a restful night’s sleep. The calming properties of the oil help create a serene environment that is optimal for resting well and staying asleep. Sounds amazing right!? Add a few drops of Lavender to your pillows or bedding so that you inhale the aroma as you are drifting off to sleep. OR, like I do every night, you can also apply Lavender oil to the bottoms of your feet as a part of a relaxing bedtime ritual. Last night, I was so tired, that I didn’t bother smearing some on my tootsies, and I woke up twice during the night.  Coincidence?  Maybe not.

11.  Lavender essential oil can also help ease feelings of tension and I have found it most helpful when feeling nervous.  While the use of Lavender is often used to promote restful sleep, it can also promote relaxation and feelings of ease during your waking hours.  So diffusing Lavender oil, will make you feel at ease and peaceful emotionally.

12.  Sunburn?  Lavender Oil has got ya covered.  Sun exposure is good, but too much of it can cause irritated skin. Thankfully, Lavender oil holds many soothing properties that are perfect for calming occasional skin irritations. If you’ve spent a little too much time in the sun and find your skin irritated, reach for a bottle of Lavender essential oil.  The next time you are dealing with discomfort from too much sun, try this after-sun soothing spray with Lavender essential oil.

13.  Whether you have kids, pets, or just a lot going on in your home, unwanted odors can sneak into nearly any room. Thankfully, the fresh, powdery, floral aroma of Lavender essential oil can get rid of musky, pungent smells that might be haunting your home. Combine Lavender oil with water in a spray bottle to create an instant solution for the unwanted smells that might be plaguing your home or belongings. Spray a light mist from your Lavender spray bottle into your car, linen closet, on your mattress, or any other areas that could use some freshening up.

PS. Lavender, rosemary, neroli and petitgrain blend perfectly to create a refreshing au-de cologne perfume.

Lavender works so well with strong florals & as we know, has strong feminine quality so it really enhances and balances the sensual feminine energy of these other rich floral oils like ylang ylang or jasmine.

The fragrance of lavender is like fresh, tangy mountain air that’s happy and free. Its fragrance imparts a feeling of inner freedom that allows one to let go of compulsions and anger. Lavender helps one undo negative self-talk; thinking becomes clearer, and balanced decisions may be made. The essential oil helps reduce mental ramblings that keep people from falling asleep.” – Fischer-Rizzi

8 LITTLE KNOWN WAYS I have been using my Essential Oils this week

8 LITTLE KNOWN WAYS I have been using my Essential Oils this week

We have switched to completely clean, non-toxic products in our home.  Of course it’s been a process, and yes, there are still some items which will be replaced in the very near future, but overall, we’re pretty chuffed.

There are many products available in the market that will help with home fragrance and cleaning. However, most products can be toxic and harmful to your health due to the chemicals and artificial scents used. An easy way to save money and reduce the amount of chemicals in your home is to make your Cleaning Solutions using essential oils.

Each day I’m finding new and exciting ways to use essential oils.  I have my Modern Essentials App and my books handy whenever I feel ANYTHING new, and I’ve seriously become one of those people that say ‘there’s an oil for that’.

Of course, they are fantastic for improving health, but there also some great ways to use them around the house so you’ll be able to swap out toxic and endocrine disrupting chemicals for these Mother Nature miracles.

Here are a few new ways I’ve been using them lately!

  1. I add a drop of Lemon & Tea Tree oil to the washing machine to remove stinky smells (great for my workout-gear; not that I stink of course – but I’m addicted to the beautiful clean fresh smell.
  2. Diffusing OnGuard to clean the air – the liver serves as a filter for toxins, both airborne and ingested. The less the liver has to process, the healthier you will be.
  3. Put a drop of lemon oil and melaleuca oil to the bottom of the trash can to keep things smelling nice.
  4. Add a few drops of Lemon, Oregano and Eucalyptus in my spray bottle when I wipe down the floors.
  5. I’ve been taking a couple drops of DigestZen each day to help aid my body to detox.
  6. Diffuse peppermint and wild orange. My house smells like a spa!
  7. Combine water and essential oil in glass spray bottle. You can use more or less essential oil depending on how strong you want the aroma.  You can use on furniture, carpet, in your car, bathroom, or anywhere else you want freshened!
  8. I also made G&T’s with a drop of lemon oil inside of a lemon wedge – and my guests were mucho impressed.  Winner!

So, how do you get started? shutterstock_322976753

ONE step at a time.

I purchased a kit of 10 oils, and started experimenting.

I use a therapeutic grade of Essential Oils, which are carefully and thoroughly tested using the strict CPTG Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade® quality protocol.  It’s because of this superior quality standard for naturally safe, purely effective therapeutic-grade oils, that one or multiple application methods can be used for a wide range of emotional and physical wellness applications.

They can be used a single oil at a time or in complex blends in one of three methods:

  1. Topically – Because essential oils have low molecular weights and are lipid soluble, they easily penetrate the skin. Once absorbed, they stay in the applied area for a localized benefit.
  2. Aromatically – A girlfriend and I were just chatting about this earlier today; how the sense of smell is a tool that can elicit powerful physiologic, mental, and emotional responses. Essential oils are quickly absorbed by the smell receptors, which have a direct link to the limbic system by way of the olfactory nerve. The limbic system is part of the brain that supports a variety of functions including smell, emotions, behavior, and memory. For this reason, essential oils have an especially powerful effect via aromatic application.
  3. Internally – When ingested, essential oils directly enter the blood stream via the gastrointestinal tract, where they are transported throughout the rest of the body. Essential oils are lipid soluble so they are readily transported to all organs of the body, including the brain. Then, like all things we consume, essential oils are metabolized by the liver and other organs and are then excreted.

With the kit I purchased, I also got access to an AMAZING FaceBook Group where there are new recipes and resources available, and if I have a question about using my oils, the inspiring women in the team are just so giving of information and support on this tox-free journey we’re on.

Best of all, I get access to our private weekly online essential oils classes, so I can continue learning how to best use essential oils.  How Friggen Awesome is that!??

GIVE ME 5 minutes AND I’ll GIVE YOU 5 Extraordinary oils you NEED in your bag

Oh my goodness, when I first started using essential oils, I knew there were dozens of ways to use each one, but I didn’t know exactly where to start.

Place your name in the subscribe bar above, and you’ll receive my personal guide with 38 uses for Essential Oils.

Do you feel the same way?

Well, I thought I’d remove the guessing out of the equation.

I was at my Barre Teacher Training this past weekend, and wasn’t feeling well. My head was hurting, I was feeling queasy and I needed to go home stat.  I needed to lie down! and rest!  Thank my lucky stars that I had taken what I like to call my ‘Emergency Pack’ of Essential Oils with me, and so I pulled them out of my back pack for some self love.

I dropped some peppermint oil on my neck, chucked a few drops of lemon in my water, rubbed some onGuard on my throat, and Digest Zen on my Belly when I got home.  Not only did I smell Delish, but it worked like a charm, and before i knew it, all the lovely ladies in my class had the luscious, zesty and fresh smell of peppermint oil spread across the back of their neck. Not only did they too smell AHHmazing, but they felt refreshed and revitalised to carry on with the intense training that lay head for the afternoon, instead of having to grab that cuppa joe to get them through the afternoon.

What I realised was that although I have been using essential oils as my medicine cabinet for EVER, not all folks know how therapeutic these golden oilies are. They’re 100% natural with virtually zero side effects. Problem solved!

… so my post this week is dedicated to YOU!

If you’re just getting started with essential oils, there are five oils that will give you the biggest bang for your buck. You can use each of these oils for dozens of different things to help you and your family!

My Top Five:

Lavender – calms emotions, takes the itch out of bites and stings, soothes sunburn & helps reduce inflammation.  This beautiful smelling oil reduces stress, helps you sleep & does wonders for aging skin and soothes dry lips.  A few drops on my pillow before bed is s a great way to relax at the end of the day!

Peppermint – great for digestive support, occasional headaches, respiratory support. It also supports the thyroid when it’s working a bit too fast & soothes the occasional sore throat.  ssshhhh – this is my secret weapon when feeling tired or drowsy.  A drop or two on the back of my neck and I’m right as rain!

Frankincense – helps reduce inflammation & to prevent scarring.  This is my number one recommendation great for aging skin as it provides healthy cell support.  I have this oil in ALL of my body and bath products.  My hubby and I constantly smell like Holy Frank.  I LOVE IT!! It can help soothe occasional headaches, provide immune support, and so much more.

Digest Zen – I don’t go anywhere without this oil blend! It’s fantastic for soothing an occasional upset stomach and any occasional digestive or intestinal issues. Just rub a drop or two on the area of concern.

Lemon – This oil is great for detox. I place a drop or two of this in my water each day.  For all the oils, you can try rubbing 1-2 drops on the bottom of your feet, your neck or on the location of concern. You could also add a few drops into a carrier oil of you’d prefer your oils to be diluted.

And if you’d like to makeover your medicine kit today, I highly recommend doTERRA therapeutic essential oils. These are the oils I personally and in my practise.  They are 100% therapeutic grade oils and each is 3rd party tested to ensure purity.
