6 Essential Oils for Sensuality, Sexuality and Libido

Over the past few months essential oils have become a huge part of my everyday life, including my sex life. I use the oils in a hot bath, in a diffuser in my bedroom, on my skin as perfume, and in coconut oil as a massage oil and daily moisturiser. I can honestly say the oils have taken my sensual and sexual life to a whole new level of ecstasy!

Here’s the top 6 oils that I’m using on a daily basis:

1.Ylang Ylang
Ylang Ylang is known to elevate sexual energy and increase libido … it is also a powerful aphrodisiac. Mmmmmmm … I love the scent of this beautiful oil. Use Ylang Ylang in a diffuser in your bedroom, or simply add a couple of drops to coconut oil and enjoy the aroma whilst massaging yourself or your lover.

Ylang Ylang is also great for the heart chakra and encourages playfulness, freedom and joy. I use this oil on my heart chakra as a daily perfume and add it to my diffuser in my bedroom to create a sensual and sexual space for love-making.

2.Geranium
Geranium oil has a harmonising affect on the mind and emotions and is known to elevate happiness, love and trust. It’s a powerful oil to use during intimacy and sex because it harmonises the energy in the room and creates a beautiful space for sensuality, intimacy and deep connection.

Geranium Oil is for the heart Chakra and is great for self-love, emotional healing and forgiveness. This oil also promotes connection and grounding in our body and is great to help boost body confidence during sex.

3.Clary Sage
Clary Sage helps increase sexual desire by decreasing inhibitions, arousing emotions and boosting libido. If you’re looking for some creativity and spice in the bedroom, Clary Sage is perfect.

Clary Sage is also powerful in regulating and balancing hormones in women and great to use during menstruation to ease cramping and mood imbalances.

Blend with Lavender oil in a hot bath to create a sensual and relaxing pre-sex soak with your lover.

4.White Fir
White Fir is a grounding oil that is known as the oil for generational healing. This oil helps clear old beliefs that keep us stuck from moving forward as empowered sexual beings.

5.Wild Orange
Wild Orange is fresh and uplifting and creates joy, abundance and flow! This oil is renowned for bringing a buzz to the sacral chakra to enhance abundance and creativity and move stagnant or stuck sexual energy. Two Steps To Happiness…

I haven’t written for a while. Maybe because I’ve been distracted building my doTERRA business, (which by the way, has seen some incredible growth over the past few weeks), but I’ve also found the courage to drop that which doesn’t serve me, in whatever shape it takes form in.  Aside from the expansive growth I have experienced in my incredible team, I’ve also (by no coincidence) experienced this growth in my life. The person who I am now, is most certainly NOT the gal who posted the previous blog post a whole 6 weeks ago. I know this because she would never have allowed a week to pass without working on her blog. Wouldn’t have allowed anything to ‘slip’ for fear that she would have been disappointing herself.

Crazy I know, because in the big scheme of things, who cares if I skip a couple of weeks of writing for my blog right?  The pressure of ensuring that it was posted every week or even every fortnight was suffocating me. It was ruining my ability to create, my ability to rest, surrender and therefore connect with the important people in my life.  No matter how hard I had worked that week, if I didn’t complete my to-do list, then I had failed.

Why is it that the negative sticks to our brains (like velcro) and the positive slides off like teflon?
We can accomplish all the goodness in the world, yet if we forget or fail at ONE THING, we crumble in disappointment.  I am all for positive thinking, mantras, affirmations, good vibes. But why is it that sometimes, we cling onto that which makes us unhappy, and then dwell on the unhappiness we feel, as if we expect to feel completely different after having taken the exact same steps that we’ve always taken.

For me this looks like pushing, striving, working late nights, early mornings, being VERY YANG (which isn’t attractive by the way) and of course, in my masculine a lot more than I’d care to admit. It seems that to be ‘happy’ and content, we’re willing to drop the things that make us happy and content, and rather work with and for things that make us unhappy and discontent.

Why is this?
Why do we hold onto destructive patterns which we know are’t good for us? and more than that, why do we have the ability to ‘cut-the-crap’ in some situations, & yet other times, we hold onto whatever it is that’s gnawing at us, and allow it to ruin our day, our week, month, year or even our life. Ridiculous really!

Well, It appears that a certain amount of it is biological. If you’re not hard-wired to do so through genetic pre-dispositioning, then the idea of trying to be positive and creative positive things in your life without strategies is nearby impossible. It turns out, that we need to teach ourselves ways to be positive, which then in turn emphasises growth, and in turn makes us happy.

If we have generational patterns of self-sabotage and victimhood, then of course, we will have these situations and circumstances appear in our lives ever-so frequently, because the truth is, that we attract who and what we are, AND what we think about.

So how do we turn things around?
How do we experience more positive emotions without feeling like we’re faking it?
How do we create a healthy environment for happy feelings?

Well we first and foremost start with G R A T I T U D E

This simple word is where everything starts and ultimately where it goes wrong. I bang on about gratitude so much I reckon my yoga students are bored with it’s teachings, but the thing is my friends, is that gratitude cascades down in ways unimaginable.  It has the ability to broaden your emotions, your thoughts, AND YOUR your awareness.  Showing gratitude and love to those around us uplifts our souls and our hearts.

By saying THANK YOU regularly, by being grateful, you increase your chances of some positive feedback in your life. This in turn reduces stress which in turn builds your self-confidence, & when we’re happy, we increase our resilience, which yet again increases our self confidence.

The next important thing to take notice of what is making you UNHAPPY? What is taking you away from your truth? What makes you feel stressed out? and then more importantly, why are you doing it?  

Understanding why it is that we hold on to certain situations, or destructive patterns gives us a real deep understanding of how we’re allowing those emotions to mould our lives.  We could habitually stick to a habit that we learnt from our parents, and yet we have no idea how and why we react the way we do.

The best part of this is, that once we know what these emotions are, and why they’re there, then clearing these emotions (by sitting with them and allowing them to pass through us, witnessing them as they pass), and making a conscious choice to change, allows the hurt to heal. That’s when we start living again. Once we’ve healed. The other really ace thing is that once we’ve healed, then (and only then) do we find the good in other people. When we let go of the hurt and let love come in; When we look for the joy and the positive, THE SILVER LINING we get to turn things around in a holy instant.

This is commonly known as EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE.

To practise the two steps I mentioned above, I use the following essential oils and self care practises:

Gratitude Blend: doTERRA Passion Blend, Frankincense, and Wild Orange. Pop this blend on my pulse points and meditate first thing in the morning. I then journal about all the things I am grateful for.

Self-Assessment: Determine what you’re feeling, and express that through talking to a friend, drawing, colouring, writing, and or exercising. Whilst and or during this cathartic experience, you’ll come to realise what it is that has triggered you to feel these emotions. Was it a certain situation? A person? Was it something that they said? and if so, what core belief is it that you believe that this feeling or emotion comes from.

5 Tips to Bring Your Lady Bits Back to Balance

…and by Lady Bits, I mean Hormones.

Have you ever felt like you were following someone else’s schedule rather than your own natural rhythm?

You may be letting your kids, husband, partner, or even roommates influence the flow of your day; it could also be a broader “prescribed rhythm” that you’re going with instead of actually listening to your body.

Here’s the truth: One rhythm does not work for everyone. Following someone else’s schedule more often than not has a negative effect on female hormones. If you’re dealing with chronic fatigue, low sex drive, intense premenstrual syndrome (PMS), cystic acne, mild depression, or other “random” symptoms, going against your natural rhythm might be the issue. By working to balancing your hormones, you’ll naturally begin to live in harmony with your female body instead of dragging yourself along on someone else’s agenda.

The result? You’ll start feeling more energized and vibrant than ever.

EVALUATE YOUR MINDSET

A lot of women feel like they need to keep up with other people. If you don’t feel like partying four nights a week after a 14-hour workday or exercising for two hours every single day, you might think there’s something wrong with you. You might even beat yourself up or feel ashamed and lazy. Ignoring your body’s signals and writing them off as laziness is not productive or helpful – it actually drains your energy even more.

The mental weight you put on yourself (like shame and judgment) is often more draining than a long to-do list. The female body is naturally incredibly fine-tuned. It is designed for deep relaxation and self-care at certain times of the month and linear, productive work at other times of the month.

Here are some symptoms that commonly appear when you have been pushing your body rather than honoring your limits:

1| You’re exhausted.

2| Your sex drive is nowhere to be found.

3| Your PMS is more intense than usual.

4| You’re gaining weight around the middle of your body.

5| You feel guilty, ashamed, and/or depressed – sometimes for no particular reason.

6| Cystic acne is starting to appear, especially around the jawline and chin.

If this is you, and you feel like you need some help in this department; read on to learn how to heal the body through simple methods that bring your female body back into balance.

1. EMPOWER YOURSELF.

When symptoms pop up, it’s easy to fear there might be a bigger or more complex issue going on or to feel like you’re broken and you can’t heal. The first step to healing is acknowledging that nothing is inherently wrong with you. Even if your health is not perfect right now, there’s nothing wrong with you and you’re not broken. You are whole exactly as you are. From that place of confidence in your body’s ability to heal itself, you can get curious about what’s going on for you and tap into the endless toolbox, the universal library of information that is always within.  To do this, you may want to consider meditation, contemplation, journalling, or other beautiful practises that allow you to explore your feelings, and or be the witness to what is going on for you.  Embodying the mindset that you are healthy now and you can become even healthier takes a huge weight off your shoulders and allows your body to naturally reach health. Stop focussing on what you believe to be WRONG, and focus your energy on the good things in your life. Read more about my recent post on Gratitude to understand how this all works.

2. GET REAL ABOUT REST.

Are you chronically exhausted, trying to push through the day? Maybe you’re actually tired. Starting with weekends, let yourself sleep as long as you want. You might notice that you wake up naturally without an alarm clock during the week. Some people will be healed after one long deep sleep, while others might need to take some serious time off to come back into balance. Sleep is a requirement for good health. Listen to your body and sleep when you’re tired.  Even short power-naps are a juicy way to re-energise the body.  Pop a diffuser on with some calming Essential oils, like, Lavender, Pettitgrain or even LemonGrass and Cedarwood, and let the aromatic compounds calm the nervous system for some down time.

3. BALANCE YOUR NERVOUS SYSTEM.

Most modern people spend the majority of their lives in the sympathetic nervous system state, aka the fight or flight, stranger-danger zone: that feeling you get when someone creeps up behind you and surprises you – or, perhaps less likely, when you’re getting chased by a bear. Here’s the thing: Your body doesn’t know the difference between those literal stressors and chronic work-related stress, or stress that stems from difficult relationships. When your body is in this sympathetic state, it can’t repair. When you are relaxed and calm, your body is in the parasympathetic state – referred to as the “rest and digest” system. This state is brought on by sleep, laughing, meditation, qigong, reiki, and even intimacy like cuddling and sex. Your body has to be in the parasympathetic state to heal and evolve. The more you can activate your parasympathetic nervous system by relaxing and having more fun, the healthier you’ll be – physically and mentally.

4. EVALUATE EXERCISE.

It might surprise you, but sometimes the harder you work out, the more stress you actually put on your body. Depending on your constitution and condition, you may actually need gentle exercise, like yoga or tai chi. Certain forms of rigorous exercise trigger the stress response, so make sure you balance your hard-core workouts with practices that are more gentle on the body. Gentle practices might include yoga, meditation, or dance. You might even discover that you want to do only these more gentle practices. Experiment for a few weeks and see how your body responds.

5. EMBRACE THE POWER OF COMMUNITY.

Community has a powerful influence on personal health, and developing a community of people to support you is crucial to balancing your hormones. When you feel alone and isolated, you’re more likely to overeat, feel depressed, and lack love and connection in your life. Humans are meant to live in communities – it’s natural and necessary. Reach out to three people this week who you’d like to deepen your relationship with and notice how it impacts your energy and physical health over the next few months.

The Science Of Happiness; and 4 Things You Can Start Doing Today!

Do you wish you were happier?

Wish that there was something that you could do to generate some true and everlasting happiness? Well look no further my friends, because I’, about to tell you  4 uber-cool ways to get turn your frown upside-down.

After having read ‘Thank and Grow Rich’, a book written by Pamela Grout, (more links to my fave books here) last year, I’ve experienced the benefits of practicing Gratitude first hand.

I’ve found that even when you think you don’t have it all, by simply focusing on what you have today, you’ll make space for a positive mindset, and you’ll actually be happier. Yes, you read right. It’ll MAKE YOU HAPPIER.

Now that you’ve watched this really cool lab-guy in a white coat explain how the art of gratitude can make you happier, think about this:   The average person has an estimated 70,000 thoughts per day! (That’s crazy right?)

Now take a moment to think about the thoughts that run through your mind. Are they positive and uplifting? “Today is going to be an amazing day!” Or negative and self-defeating? “I don’t have the energy to get through today.”

Positive and grateful thoughts boost your mood, spirit, and tend to generate even more positivity and happiness in your life. Conversely, negative thoughts can create a domino effect of destructive energy. Falling into a spiral of negativity tremendously affects how you live your life and how others perceive you. Thankfully, you don’t have to accept the negative internal chatter. Choose to switch to a happier perception and reach for better thoughts. It takes a little practice, but soon enough, your mind will gravitate to the brighter side of life. Practice cultivating a positive, grateful mindset with these tips.

As Abraham Hicks say in their book – ask and it is given,’ We are often asked, Isn‘t love a better word than appreciation? Isn‘t love more descriptive of the Non- Physical Energy? And we say that love and appreciation are really the same vibration. Some use the word gratitude, or a feeling of thankfulness, but all of these words are descriptive of Well-Being. A desire to appreciate is a very good first step, and then as you find more things that you would like to say “Thank you” about, it quickly gains momentum. And as you want to feel appreciation, you attract something to appreciate. And as you appreciate it, then you attract something else to appreciate, until, in time, you are experiencing a Rampage of Appreciation.’

So what does it actually mean to MAKE SPACE FOR GRATITUDE? and what do I define as being grateful?  I think that the simple act of being aware and thankful of the good things that happen (and even the not-so-good things, as these are the ones that actually provide us with a silver lining of greatness to be grateful for) ; & taking time to express thanks.

Here are some ways I like to cultivate gratitude on a regular basis.

  1. I keep a gratitude journal and each day write down FIVE thoughts (and or more) that I’m grateful for.  I do this first thing in the morning, EVERY MORNING.  Whether i have 5 minutes or 15 minutes, expressing gratitude for me is a daily ritual.  I recently read that writing in a gratitude journal improves sleep, according to a 2011 study published in Applied Psychology: Health and Well-Being, simply spending just 15 minutes jotting down a few grateful sentiments before bed, and you may sleep better and longer. (i’m going to start this tonight). I received this Wedding Journal as a gift for our engagement, but because I’m not the sorta gal to plan everything to a tee, I didn’t really use it, so I’m modifying the content.  
  2. When you want to express your gratitude to a friend or family member, Write a thank-you note, or even just send a text. You can make yourself happier and nurture your relationship with another person by writing to them, expressing your enjoyment and appreciation of that person’s impact on your life. Send it, or better yet, deliver a hand-written letter and read it in person if possible. Make a habit of sending at least one gratitude letter/ text a month.
  3. Thank someone mentally.  It may help just to think about someone who has done something nice for you, and mentally thank the individual.  With every thought you think, every emotion you feel, you’re acting as an epigenetic engineer of your own cells. YOU control your destiny. If you continue to focus on the things that you’re most grateful for, those things will continue to appear in your life. You will begin to change the neurological circuitry of your brain, and begin to think from that new level of mind.  Pretty incredible right?!
  4. Meditate!  This is BIG ONE!! People who are disciplined to meditate daily can use meditation to cultivate gratitude.  You can also use a technique called mindfulness meditation, which involves focusing on the present moment without judgment. Although people often focus on a word or phrase (such as “peace”), it is also possible to focus on what you’re grateful for (the warmth of the sun, a pleasant sound, etc.).

Gratitude may be one of the most overlooked tools that we all have access to every day. Cultivating gratitude doesn’t cost any money and it certainly doesn’t take much time, but the benefits are enormous.

We all have the ability and opportunity to cultivate gratitude. Simply take a few moments to focus on all that you have – rather than complain about all the things you think you deserve. Developing an “attitude of gratitude” is one of the simplest ways to improve your satisfaction with life.

2 Simple Inquiries into Self-Sabotage

We all have unlimited potential right? Well, that’s what every self-help and personal-development book tells us, and I believe it all, I do.

But often our results don’t reflect that. Why? Because our unconscious beliefs cripple our results. These ‘unconscious beliefs’ are our programmed beliefs, the ones our parents, school-teachers, and other significant people from our youth gave to us.

This is big for me. We’re taught that we need to work HARD, and that we need to SUFFER to ‘earn’ success and happiness. As if the amount of suffering we endure will amount to the quantity of our bliss. Our nature is to only invest energy into that which we believe will produce the outcome we seek. I mean, that makes logical sense right?

Decide what you want, and then go after it. Work long hours, undercut & undermine people, be nasty and play office-politics, because ‘that’s the only way you’re going to make it to the top’.

Not only have we been taught a skewed lesson on how to achieve greatness, but on the flip-side of it all, when we believe something is not going to work out – even an unconscious belief that we may consciously not even be aware of – we sabotage our potential by taking half-hearted action.

Also called Cognitive Distortions, most of the obstacles we encounter are created through thinking patterns that we have developed throughout our lives. Over time, these patterns become habits that lead to unconscious self sabotage. In order to counteract this, we need to be aware of our thinking patterns and how they affect our lives.

And this my dear friends, is what I have caught myself doing lately…drum roll please….

Little action equals lousy results.

Lousy results equal uncertainty and disheartened beliefs.  

It is a vicious cycle that only ends when you decide to change what you’re putting into it.

EARLIER ON THIS MONTH, I realised for the first time how far I had actually come. In spite of all the self-doubt, worry and self-sabotage …. it’s all come good. In fact, I’m exactly where I always wanted to be.

But wait, what now? Things are going ‘too well’. That little voice in my head says ‘something’s gotta give Ari, this is all going wayyyy too good.  I can still hear the constant dissatisfaction and frustration, the self doubt, self sabotage, resistance, judgement and fear felt when hearing this voice trying to coax me out of my happiness and satisfaction.

What I have come to realize is that Many of us sabotage because we fear change. We fear it may create too much havoc and instability in our lives. We fear that it may mean the end of our marriages, chosen careers or popularity. Sound familiar?

This type of self-sabotage, can seep its way into your goals, your relationships, projects, and almost all other areas of your life. To make this clear, what we’re actually doing is, failing on purpose. Crazy hey?!

So after having this little nugget of realization earlier this month, I started to recount all the things that have been ‘going wrong’ lately, and I’ve been able to pin-point the areas of sabotage, and finally take control and responsibility of my actions, or more appropriately, my in-actions.

Of course, things that have happened, have already happened right, but it’s my responsibility as an adult, to get my arse into gear, and step-up!

So this is what I’ve been working on which I thought to share in case you’re experiencing the same frustrations as I am:

  • Re-sort my goals – Are my goals my own or are they imposed by someone else? We often sabotage the outcome of our goals when our heart is not in it. In my case, what I realized is that I have been setting my goals too high. Being way too ambitious, so that I actually set myself up for failure. So, I set a really high goal, and then when I miss the mark, I get down on myself, which only confirms all the fear and self-doubt that I have, which then forms a perpetual cycle. And On and On we go.  I pop the lids off my essential oils, take a whif, and dig deep. The oils I used for this step are one’s for courage; Clove, Ginger, doTERRA’s Cheer Blend and doTERRA’s Motivate Blend (which I used so much that I had to purchase new bottles);  These oils are encouraging and uplifting, and they foster confidence to follow through with one’s own inspirations and intentions.   • Investigate what emotions have I been avoiding? What situations have I been avoiding for fear of success or failure? By avoiding situations, we can prevent ourselves from hurtful emotions but we also prevent ourselves from happiness, moving forward, love, success, achievement and the joy of living.  This can show up in our lives in so many ways. Ask yourself honestly, can you relate to any of these three statements? And If so, how?
    1. Not getting involved in a relationship to avoid possible heartbreak.
    2. Not taking risks to avoid failure.
    3. Not asking because you’re fearful of rejection.

Whether we try to suppress our emotions via avoidance, covering up or ignoring them, it becomes clear as time progresses that our emotions are never truly suppressed. Our body is designed for expressions and thus finds alternative pathways for the emotion to surface i.e.: illness, depression, moodiness, self sabotage, stagnancy, failure, bad luck etc.

The thing is, you can do “all the right things”, and yet… if you’re constantly having thoughts and words that disempower you and others, it will sabotage your results.  What is your ‘love and bliss’ ceiling? What amount of love, bliss and ‘everything is going so well’ can you handle before ‘it’s too good to be true’? Perhaps you get to the 2 year mark and then self-sabotage because 2 years is your limit. Or perhaps it’s something else.

Passive-aggressive people sabotage the work assignment that they don’t want to do. For example, a woman I know was given a task at work that she absolutely deplored. But she was afraid of saying no to her boss, so instead she made many mistakes while completing the task to ensure that she’d never be asked to do it again.

Here is some food for thought to start the inquiry into your actions. If there is even a tinge of something herein that triggers you, delve deeper, until you know what it is that you could be doing to sabotage yourself:

Unworthiness means that you don’t feel worthy of receiving the same goodness to which you believe everyone else is entitled. As a person who believes you’re unworthy, you’ll sabotage all good things as they come to you. You won’t have your sights set high enough. You’ll expect the worst, so that’s what you’ll attract and create.

If you people-please, everyone will know it. People-pleasers never get away with their act. Others know that you’re faking your feelings, laughter, and smiles, and they’ll doubt your sincerity and your integrity. They won’t trust you, and they’ll wonder what else you might be dishonest about. So people-pleasing can sabotage your credibility in business, and your trustworthiness in relationships.

The Weird Truth about Gratitude

Having just come out of what I can only call one of the most frustrating days of this year so far, i have had to remind myself on how to shift negative, and potentially harmful energy QuickSmart.  I mean, it’s pretty important to know how to get out of a negative energy state quickly, whether you’re arguing or have had a bad or distasteful experience – It could be one of the MOST IMPORTANT things you learn how to do in your life. SO HOW DO YOU elevate your energy in a quick and exciting way?

Simple…

You Focus on what you appreciate. By redirecting your focus on what’s working in your life,  (if you can) speaking it out loud.

By verbalising and saying what you appreciate by using your words, you will dramatically shift your negative state within minutes.

If you practice gratitude as opposed to maintaining an attitude of entitlement, you’ll automatically extend inspiration wherever you go. Being grateful helps remove the influence of your ego, which is certain that you’re better than everyone else.

An attitude of gratitude allows you to adopt what’s called “radical humility,” a trait that’s very persuasive in helping others feel inspired.

Most of the people I’ve met or observed who are at the top levels in their chosen fields have these attitudes of gratitude and radical humility. After all, when so many high achievers reach for their statuette or championship trophy, they say, “First I’d like to thank God.” It’s almost as if they can’t help themselves—they’re so grateful for their accolade, but even more than that, they know that there’s a Force in the Universe way bigger than they are that allows them to act, sing, write, compete, or design. And if you adopt this kind of an attitude, you’ll inspire others. It’s that simple.

Catapult yourself out of any negative state.

Your Home, Your shoes, Your meals…and go down your own daily list. Lean into it and move quickly out of a negative patterns & fear based stories. With a new vibration, you can reach for new thought patterns. By being appreciative and light-hearted, you’ll transport yourself into a new way of being. So just ask yourself,  What do you appreciate in your life, in your your circumstances?  This positive attitude that will help create our own positive reality.

And here’s another very important aspect of this process – You’ll become kinder and more compassionate with yourself.

By becoming more loving toward yourself, you will attract more of the higher, faster energies and begin to change what’s inside you. In your thoughts, you’ll start to  cultivate an inner voice and attitude that’s always FOR YOU. Imagine an aspect of yourself that only supports and loves you.

If you want to put this in practise, then you may consider scheduling a certain time of the day when that’s the only thought that you allow yourself to pay attention to! Pop a drop of Lime doTERRA essential oil in your diffuser, paint your nose with it and give yourself a moustache so that you can inhale the aromatic properties of it’s refreshing and glorious aroma.  Lime  Essential Oil is one of the Essential Oils that I use in my Practise to Cultivate an Attitude of Gratitude for all the Gifts of the the Imperfections in my Life.

I have noticed that gradually this attitude has extended to other people, even if i’ve only has a minute or two per day to practise.  Try it – You’ll begin to receive this energy back and ultimately be able to send thoughts of love and joy to everyone and everything in your world. Notice when your thoughts drift into the lower energy of ridicule or hate or guilt, and change the thought at that very moment, if at all possible. If you’re unable to change your thought, at least love yourself for what you did do— that is, for noticing.

The Misleading Ingredients in your Camping Supplies

Andre and I, along with a couple of mates, went camping not so long ago to a little place called Tumut in New South Wales in Australia.

We only went for two nights, as it’s all that we had time for, but oh my word, did we have fun.  We managed to secure the perfect spot along the river, where we could see the river from our open tents.  The sound of the water coming off the Snowy Mountains gushing at about 15km per hour was the perfect sound to go to sleep at night and wake up to.

There’s something about being in nature that really lights me up. This is most certainly a practise that I want us to keep up through the year. Mind you, the winter-cold in a tent isn’t something that excites me, so we may just have to save it for the warmer months.

Never-the-less, whilst preparing for our little trip to the Great OutDoors, I was compelled to create and make-up all bug repellant ointments, cooling-sprays, flea sprays (for Marvin of course), and also sunburn sprays from  the Essential Oil Collection that we have. It was an idea that originally came from Andre, as he had mentioned that he wants a fly-spray for when he is on the golf-course so that he isn’t distracted by those nasties landing on and around his face whilst trying to enjoy a relaxing game of golf each weekend.

I have posted the Bug Repellant Spray Recipe on my Oily Recipes Page, but also wanted to share with you some really interesting information and articles I found about the damaging effects of certain store bought repellants.

  1. Some Common Side Effects for store bought insect repellants include skin reactions, allergic reactions, and eye irritations.  A 2009 study found that DEET (which is a chemical found in most insect repellants) can interfere with the activity of enzymes that are vital for the nervous system to function properly. doTERRA have published an article on their website about the Common “scents” defensea term they have coined for Drawing upon Mother Nature’s blueprint to use Essential Oils to ‘Bug Off’ when needed.
  2. Many topical medicated creams for insect-bites, itching and irritations have side effects, causing redness, irritation and or swelling. An article published back in 2008 (yes, that’s how old and obvious this information is) talks about various instances where women have DIED because of their use of various ointments and lotions purchased over the counter.  Here, Leslie Goldman investigates 14 ingredients commonly found in products you may be using right now — and she tells you how to stay safe. My advice after reading this is simple. Don’t use products with ingredients you don’t know how to pronounce.   Stay within the realms of natural medicine, and pop food grade essential oils and other products on your skin to allow Mother Nature to take care of your woes.
  3. The natural oils in plants protect the plant from insects, shield the plant from a harsh environment and help them adapt to their surroundings. By USING essential, you are harnessing the protective and health-promoting powers of a plant. Essential oils are truly the most potent form of plant-based medicine. Their power to heal and cure disease, and in this case, to act as an insect repellant, is so effective that by using essential oils many people are able to avoid the need to use a plethora of drugs or have various types of surgeries.

With all that in mind which 8 oils did I take with me? and why?

  1. Tea tree – What a potent powerhouse tea-tree (melaleuca) is.  Tea tree soothes itchy insect bites, sores, and sunburns, acts as a powerful antiseptic and anti-microbial, and acts as an effective insect repellent. For scratches, bumps and cuts… bring out the tea-tree!  You can also use tea-tree as a hand sanitiser either neat, or mixed with water in a spray bottle.  

  2. Lemon is best known for its ability to support the body’s natural detoxification and is widely used to stimulate lymph drainage, to rejuvenate energy, purify skin and also act as an insect repellant.

  3. Clove Oil is a powerhouse of an oil and has so many practical uses. Mixed with some LemonGrass Essential Oil, acts as a very effective insect repellant. We diluted this mixture with Fractionated coconut oil because Clove is quite a spicy oil and a neat application (the oil direct on the skin with no carrier oil) should be avoided.
  4. Lavender Oil is a great all-rounder with a wide range of applications so it’s the perfect addition to the travel kit.   Lavender heals burns (including sunburn), wounds and skin irritations, including eczema and psoriasis.
  5. Peppermint Essential Oil is so versatile that I don’t go anywhere without it!
    Plus, it’s one of the most affordable oils and has a clean and refreshing smell that we all love!  It acts as a 
    Sunburn Relief – If you’ve been out in the sun a bit too long, 1 drop of Peppermint and 1 drop of Lavender combined with some Fractionated Coconut Oil can be rubbed on the area of concern to cool the skin and alleviate the burning. I use it a lot to Relieve Bloating, Indigestion Gas (whoops), or Nausea. Rubbing 1-2 drops on the area of concern, or if you’re comfortable, drop 1 drop of Peppermint directly on your tongue (only Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade Essential Oils please) and drink a glass of water. AND MOST IMPORTANTLY! To Freshen Your Breath. Because nobody likes morning breath! Place 1 drop of Peppermint on your tongue for super fresh breath!

  6. Frankincense – Because I don’t go anywhere without Frankie. I imagine that you know that Frankincense has been around for thousands of years, but did you know that it can be helpful for hundreds of different things?!  Seriously, it is used for everything from immune support, inflammation, skin issues, supporting the thyroid, and so much more. Luckily I brought it with me because Andre’ started to feel a bit flu-y on the first night we were there, and although I didn’t have a roller bottle on me, I sprayed his feet with Frankincense and OnGuard.
  7. OnGuard Essential Oil Blend.  Have you smelt the On Guard Essential oil or any of the On Guard range yet? If you haven’t, just get onto it. It is so warming, reminding me of Christmas. The beautiful aromas of orange, cloves and cinnamon mixed tighter just fills our house with joy.  On Guard Protective Blend of wild orange, clove bud, cinnamon, eucalyptus, and rosemary CPTG essential oils. This powerful essential oil blend is combined with plant-based derivatives that provide a non-toxic and biodegradable way to clean and eliminate odours….perfect to expertly clean hard surfaces leaving behind a clean and invigorating scent.
  8. LemonGrass Essential Oil is a very economical oil that is useful for aromatherapy, to help with various health issues, and can be used in your cooking.  Also a great insect repellant!

Can you really have it all?

After coming home from a long weekend of camping (yes, we went camping – cue gasp!), we feel refreshed and ready for what 2017 has to throw at us.  Come at us 2017 – We’re ready and rearing to go!

I can’t help but think that coming home from a holiday, for some, is a bit of a stressful experience simply because they’re returning to a job that they don’t particularly love.  The mere thought of sitting in traffic, on a train or bus, crowded with people who are breathing in your space makes you sick, & maybe you’re not too convinced that being around your boss or your colleagues is adding to your high vibes.

Will you be promoted this year? Will your work hours be extended and will your job really become all that you had hoped it would be ?  I know this feeling. Having felt it so many times when I was in my corporate career of HR, I disappointingly had to face the realisation that my fate lay in the hands of those who managed me, and my goal of changing people’s lives for the better – the hope and dreams I had of truly making a a positive impact on the lives of my colleagues – became an unobtainable nightmare. There was just no way that my job was ever going to fulfil me, no matter how high I climbed the corporate ladder.

Fast forward 16 months, and I’m sitting on our spare bed working on my laptop, with my charged iPhone by my side, the sun streaming on my sin-kissed cheeks, a cup of coffee (freshly brewed from the incredible coffee machine we received as a wedding gift – BEST GIVE EVER!), and a smile from ear to ear. Not only because I have this beautiful job which allows me to work my own hours, but because I get to connect with phenomenal people from all over the world, and help them chase their own version of freedom.

A lifestyle where there are no limitations. Say What!?

A life where they can ‘do whatever they like’; ‘whenever the hell they want’, and of course, ‘with who they want to.’

Sounds like the true pursuit of happiness right? and it is.  I feel empowered to be my own BOSS, improve my health, mental state (daily) and I get to earn money whilst looking myself as numero uno.

Let me tell you one thing here ladies, there is NOTHING MORE POWERFUL and rewarding than working with kismet souls, towards something BIG and worthwhile and philanthropic, all the while helping people grow, and reach their full potential – all in one foul swoop. SWOOP!

Anyway, the growth that I have undertaken in the last 4 months alone leaves me feeling blessed. Ecstatic. Wanting More. No. Needing More!

I have finally found something that has held my attention for longer than 4 months -<Miracle>- and it truly makes my heart sing. I literally jump out of bed every friggen morning before 6am (unless I am teaching that morning – Yes I still get to teach weekly yoga classes, which i love BTW, in which case I’m up at 5am) no alarm clock necessary! I have surrounded myself with inspiring people and I love my life.

Can you honestly say that you feel like this every damn day?  How does your job make you feel?  Can you give back to the planet, to your community in ways that make your heart sing?

In 4 measly months, I have learnt that I can inspire friends and family to live a healthy life, whilst designing the life that I LOVE. I create an abundant income from home and get to pick and choose the hours that I work, from anywhere I choose.

My Top 10 Secrets to Success

Have you ever wondered about people who are so successful ?

What they do to create success?

I mean, what sort of tactics and and or rituals do they use? and how the hell did they figure it all out? After having done some super-serious research, (and by that I mean, super-serious scrolling) I realised that a lot of the people who are ‘successful’ have had some sort of sport’s training, and blatantly attribute sport in their lives for one of the main reasons that they are successful.  Before we go any further, I think we should define the meaning of success, which will be very different for everyone reading this.  Success for you could be that you hit a particular income figure for the year? or perhaps gaining more freedom so that you can hang out with your family more. Heck man, maybe success for you on a given day is brushing your teeth before midday because your bub is sick and you’re exhausted.

Whatever your definition of success is, I want you to think about it whilst reading this post, and see whether or not you can credit sport to the success you have in life today, or perhaps start to create a pathway to success by including sports-practises into your life.

How? Here are 4 Similarities between sports and life, which, once understood and practised, will help you start to pave the way towards success in your life.

Once you’ve experienced these things on the field, on stage, in life, you ‘get it’ enough to move on and create more abundance for yourself.

  1. The power of loss is something you have felt before, and you know that in every sports game, you can’t avoid it. Even if you don’t try to win, and you’ve given up, you’re losing, and it’s this ability to deal with failure and learning to get back up which is the platform to help you deal with life’s ups and downs.  Believe me, it’s not easy, and when you don’t get what you want, it’s even more challenging to change your mindset to get back on the horse – BUT it’s this innate reason that allow sportsmen and women to succeed in ways others struggle to assimilate. It is a vital part in success. Falling down and getting back up teaches you a lot about yourself and how you handle tough situations.  In today’s experiences of loss, I have found Ylang Ylang Essential Oil to be a powerful remedy for the heart. The scent reconnects me with accessing my intuition and my ‘heart’s knowing’, and helps me to release emotional trauma.
  2. When you’re playing sports, you’re quite determined and clear on what you want to get out of a game or a performance. You visualise your wants for the way you want to play, the things that you need to improve on, and if you’ve been taught to visualise, then you visualise the crap out of any given situation so that you know how to respond. I have attended a few dance-training camps in my days, and everyday, we would be asked to lie flat on the floor, and the music would play. Our eyes would close, and we would spend a considerable amount of time visualising our routines, without moving a muscle. We were taught to visualise the way our body would move, the way we would feel, and the way our breath would facilitate and initiate each and every movement. It was MAGIC, for when we rose and physically performed our routines thereafter, we would FEEL different! and we sure as hell looked different. It’s as though the mind created the shift for us, and the body followed-suit.   By using visualisation techniques to build success in your own life, you will increase the chances of creating and manifesting the life of your dreams.  All it takes is a few moments of silence and a clear vision to create whatever your version of success is. I visualise and journal every single morning.  I pop a few drops of Essential Oil (which one/blend will depend of what I’m trying to create in my life at the time) in the diffuser, and perhaps wipe a ‘moustache’ of the oil on my top lip, and the frequency of the oil will lift, and teach my soul in ways i don’t even need to understand.
  3. Affirmations.  Each dancer has  their own way of dealing with the stress and anxiety (if felt at all) of performing on stage. I’m sure that athletes have this too. In the locker room, some guys and gals prefer to listen to music. Some sit still alone with their thoughts. Some run around in an attempt to get rid of unwanted energy, and some chit-chat with those around them so that they can take their mind off their next gruelling task. Whatever it is that they have decided to do, there comes a time when every athlete mumbles a sentence, a phrase, a mantra to themselves. Perhaps even having a full-blown conversation with themselves about the way they’re going to perform. It’s then that you are using clear and positive language  as opposed to ‘don’ts’, or negative words.  Using positive language to overcome the fear, the doubt and build your confidence in and off the field, is a sure-fire way to get results, and to train your mind to co-create your own reality.  I have written a bit about accessing an energy centre within to help you rid fear, anxiety, and other debilitating emotions. Nutrition wasn’t always high on my radar.  In my late teens and early twenties, the goal was to eat as ‘cheap’ as possible so that we could afford lessons with top trainers in the world.  Quite incredible how my mind and life has changed fast forward 10 years huh?  I was gulping down all sorts of energy drinks, slim-pills, water retention tricks, pick-me-ups, you name it, I’ve tried it. The aim of the game was to sleep less, and train more. Possible at 18! not so much as you get older.  The exhaustion set in, and what a friggen nightmare when it turned into Chronic Fatigue Syndrome .  It was a nightmare alright!  but I kept on going.   As an athlete, you always push through. I have since learnt SO MANY lessons on listening to my body. I have had so many stumbles along the way. Oh goodness, I remember how I ate the wrong foods, and took various stimulants to  keep going. Thankfully – Times have changed. So the fourth thing i want to mention, is how being a sportsman teaches you how to nourish your body through Nutrition.  Learning about the best ways to fuel your body helps you think with a clear mind, and to perform at your best for extended periods of time. That’s one thing that I probably learnt too late in my dancing career, The imperative need to eat right!  What you put into your body is what you get back out in the playing field so best you put organic and ethically sourced products in your mouth, or you’ll be vibrating at such low frequencies you won’t even know yourself.

How I got to find balance?  Learning and implementing the following 10 steps into my life….

  1. Failing is ok – Well, one big moment in my life, when things started (and I say started because it took me another few years to get with the program) was when we lost our National title. One thing I have learnt is that losing will help you to get better. It will help you to be better. It’ll help you to ascertain what you want, and guide you to take the right steps to succeed.  I have recently had to order yet another bottle of Bergamot Essential Oil to help relieve feelings of despair, self judgement and low self-esteem.  It’s a great little helper with hope, love, optimism and confidence, and you can never have enough of this Oil – The Oil of Self-Acceptance
  2. People who can teach you – I found Mentors and those who inspire me, and I surround myself with these people. High Vibin’ peeps.  You WILL Succeed with mentors around you.
  3. I have found that giving is far better than receiving – Something I am focussing more on now, is how to lead, and become a mentor. I learnt that the more I teach, the more I learn, so its with this in mind that I am really focussing on leading my team, and stepping into a role where I can really help those who want some guidance. I must admit that I’m in my friggen element and truly loving it.  Giving is the most powerful thing that you can do, and I highly recommend you try it.
  4. Do what you love and leave fear and doubt in the gutter. Use tools to leave those things behind such as books, meditation, journalling, reflection practises and or contemplation and other creative doings like colouring-in and drawing mandalas to be the most effective tools in my life. But this list isn’t conclusive and you may find your own self-love and care practises to be something completely different. Experiment and see where you land. Don’t try to be perfect, and please, for love of all things, have fun whilst you’re figuring it all out.
  5. I try to move in spite of fear – Always try something new and innovate constantly.  I have made a silent pledge to myself to continue to advance, no matter what. Whether that be advancing into a period of stillness, or moving really fast and achieving.  Juniper Berry Essential Oil is my best buddy here – I spray her on my body every morning to protect me, and give me courage.
  6. My Spirituality has definitely helped me find balance. Understanding that I only have control over the way I react to situations, and over the situations themselves has given me the relief of knowing that I don’t have to change the world, I just have to be the light in my own life, and I’ll start attracting LIKE.
  7. Learn the basics and then re-learn them – Know what is important and trust that there is always a reason for things that happen. I understand that I am going to fall off-balance at times, but when that happens, I have sustained long-term daily practises that help me come back to basics. .
  8. Stay balanced – By having a long term plan, about what you want to achieve & what your goals are. I spent some time earlier this week writing out my 10 year Goals, 5 years Goals, 1 year Goals and 3 month Goals.  It helps me to look at the big picture. This life is crazy, but if you’re able to look long term, big picture, you can calm down and face reality.  Having a Vision Board Also helps. One that’s in clear view for all to see.  the doTERRA Balance Blend was by my side during my goal setting program this week. Together, we write from the heart, and co-created a fantastic set of goals.
  9. Get rid of Perfection Paralysis – This is one that I really got stuck on . Things don’t need to be perfect, you just need to do them.  I have blended a Calming Blend for times when I feel stuck or stagnant. After moving about to release or disperse energy, I pop some of this on my pulse points and witness the feelings of hostility, fear, anger, and any other emotion I am feeling at the time, dissipate and release.
  10. Education! constantly strive to better yourself and your situation. The onus is on you to educate yourself.  Work on yourself and be honest about the things you need to work on. One by one, write them down and then figure out what you’re going to do to get better. Progress, do not stagnate, move forward.

Your vibrational shift is the BIGGEST gift you can give anyone

Having come back just over a week ago from TheNewWayLive (TNWL) I have felt an overwhelming vibrational shift in the way I feel about life, love, business, joy, friendships, and money. (so basically everything in life right!?)

It wasn’t even that the shift happened all at once, it gradually crept into my psyche and nested it’s way to my heart – where it has now taken up residence in the core of my Being.  What a crazy week it has been and I am so happy to be back hOMe (and I mean that figuratively) so that I can share this with you.

I’m so incredibly excited to share this with you guys because not only do I seriously want you (yes you!) to experience this shift too but I want you to be open to the possibilities that this shift will bring into your own life.

So in light of these Limiting Beliefs that I have discovered within, and because I am so friggen passionate about creating an abundant life for myself and those around me, I realised that it was uber-important for me to re-write my money story.  I realised that I needed to leap out of my own way (not just step), to tap into my service mentality, instead of being all about M,  and what I want, and what I get out of ‘it’ – be in a place of what I can DO for others in this world.

I was constantly reminded at TNWL to Stop missing the point guys!  to start to exploring my own feelings around money, and focus on being of service, because I promise you, creating this magnanimous vision, inviting people into that vision, and moving towards a conscious way of Being is going to expand my soul in ways that are unimaginable.

I wrote a blog post recently about setting intentions before you do ANYTHING and it’s no different with this topic too.  So, I have written a letter to my dear friend, Money (or as I so like to call her – Monifah).

Oh my goodness you and I babe have come so bloody far. 

You’ve always known what I’ve needed and when I’ve needed It & like an angel (right on cue), you appear out of no-where to show me a good time, and to teach me uber-important lessons in life.

I am sorry that it’s taken me so damn long to say thank you, and to let you know that I love and appreciate you more than you can ever imagine.

I want you to know that I’ve recently become aware how, when I stress about you, or worry that you won’t come back to me, when I ‘helicopter’ over you like a crazy, smothering parent, that you feel intimidated and suffocated.

So I wanted to make a promise to you, that I’ll be confident in our relationship no matter what. Even though I have an idea of where I want you to go, I completely understand that you have your own agenda, which is for the betterment of all on earth. I am so honoured that you’ve chosen me to be the conduit for your mission. Thank you for having faith in me and trusting me to make a difference. 

I’m sorry for buying into negative-money dogma, and for standing by when my friends and family have spoken shit about you. I’m graciously aware of the endless possibilities that you’ve already given me, and the ones that you’re yet to gift me so that we can make the impact on the world that you so greatly wish us to do. 

I’ve been chatting a lot with Andre (my husby) about this recently. About our purpose and how you and I babe, are going to change the lives of so many people.

These conversations have been rocking the earth beneath us, as we start to (finally) make better ‘happy-earth’ decisions about where we distribute you, about how we share you, and where in our lives we want you to grow and what to focus on. I’m sorry it’s taken us so long to get here, and I’m super grateful that you’ve stuck around patiently waiting for us to ‘get with the program’. 

I friggen love you man! And I know you love me too! Your dedication and generosity proves your commitment to my growth, and I know that we’re unshakeable. You see Monifah my darling, I respect you, and I know your power.  In turn, you trust me, & you always, without fail, you deliver!

It’s December 2016, & you’re flowing into my life freely and in abundance and we start to reap the rewards that you have so graciously bestowed upon us.

As 2017 rolls on we experience the biggest sustainable financial climb of our lives. We begin to invest in beautiful and nurturing practises for the planet, and make smart and intelligent choices.  We have attracted high vibing counsel who align with our core beliefs. We trust that our constantly rising energy has attracted Divine Beings into our lives, so that we invest the energetic flow of money for the good of all.  I can feel how excited you are to do this babe!

You know that I have a deep set passion for helping the our world, and I’m so stoked that you and I get to work on these projects and missions together. Thank you for paving a highway to me, and for helping us in pursuing our dreams.

You’re fricken incredible and I’m so sorry that people take you for granted. I promise you babe that you’re safe with me. I welcome you with open arms into my life. Let’s change the lives of all those who are a part of my business, so that they too may experience your love and abundance.  I am so unbelievably financially abundant! And I can’t wait for your presence to shower our lives even more than it already has. I am so super excited about your presence! Monifa, You’re one sexy beast!

Thank you for all that you’ve given to me and my family, so that we can experience life to the full. Thank you for the lessons you have taught us, and for the ones you are yet to teach us. 

I thank you for gifting me the finances to be able to achieve a new way of living, one that is conscious and great, and infectiously sublime.

Thank you for making it possible for me to continuously invest in my future, and in my growth. Thank you for also gifting me rad opportunities to travel, for both business and leisure. The opportunity to attend seminars & audacious events. The ability to participate in programs that facilitate my and my team’s growth is something that, as you know, I value more than anything in the world.

May I be an instrument in developing my team and those around them too, so that we may all bask in the glory of your love and support.  Thank you for giving me the confidence and the space to grow so that I may attract those who want freedom and prosperity in their lives.
